The inaugural day commenced on the morning of February 10, as Dr. Ivo Ferreira, founder of Oftalmo University, welcomed the first cohort of trainees to the European campus. The trainee group included members from Uruguay, Poland, and Germany.
Dr. Ferreira delved into the fundamentals of cataract surgery, emphasizing the importance of posture, ergonomics, and precise hand control techniques. He also shared the two important analogies about ergonomics:

Dr. Ferreira took time to share the two books of inspiration to make everything at Oftalmo University happen: 10x is Easier than 2x and The Rational Optimist. During the opening presentation, he gifted one of the books to Ramón Berra (Director General at Miranza).
